June 19th 2011:
ATV rider Sally was well rewarded for picking up an empty run when she discovered Nest #6 in the Ocean Sands section of Corolla. With the nest located within a stone throw's of the
June 4th false crawl and 15 days after, we can't help but wonder if this could be the same turtle. Nesting responders Mary Kaye, Rich, Mary Lou, Bon, John, and Marilyn quickly found
the eggs and collected a DNA sample. It will be interesting to see if this was indeed the same mom who laid her nest on June 4th.
August 14th 2011: Last night, with volunteers going back and forth from underneath some near-by houses between lightning storms, our nest successfully boiled. At 8:30pm the nest was still stagnant but then when a volunteer ran back out to check at 8:50pm a few pioneers rolled out of the nest and at 9:10pm the big boil occurred. In total, around 77 turtles found their way to the ocean by midnight.
