  1. Go for a beach walk and collect trash that you find.

2) Obtain a large piece of cardboard that you can use as the base for your sculpture. Often local recycling centers or appliance stores have large pieces.

3) Decide which sea creature you would like to make a sculpture of and draw the shape of that animal onto the cardboard. Life-sized works best. Dimensions of the turtle are 1.5’ wide x 2’ long for the body/shell.

4) Cut out the shape of your sculpture using scissors or an exacto knife. Have an adult help.

5) Paint the cardboard base how it would look realistically on the animal in areas that will not be covered by trash. In the turtle, this includes front flippers, hind flippers, head and tail. Be sure to paint eyes, a nose and a mouth!

6) When paint is dry, glue the trash you collected to the cardboard base.

7) Display your sculpture for others to see and spread the word about marine debris!
