Network for Endangered Sea Turtles 24 HR. HOTLINE 252-441-8622

It’s been hard to keep up with all our recent activity so I am doing a batch update again.

Here are some highlights and details can be found on the table below.

  • Nests #1-16 have all emerged.
  • Nests #18, 20, 25, and 28 have also emerged. Those in-between are anticipated soon.
  • We have had two dud nests (all eggs were found with no development).  One was our Kemp’s Ridley nest.  We look forward to seeing if her second nest has success.
  • Four nests so far have seen leucistic hatchlings (lacking pigmentation and often accompanied with other developmental malformations).
  • We broke our record for shortest incubation. Nest #25 had a sink hole and then emergence on Day 47.  That’s about the fastest a nest is physically capable of developing!
