North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission Karen Clark put out the call to the N.E.S.T. response team of the discovery.  While the crawl was really wide and the nest site was pretty messy, the distinctive comma shape of the rear flipper and a slight zig-zag of the crawl made the team diagnose it as loggerhead.

Nope, this is not the nest pit

Nope, this is NOT the nest pit

The mama Loggerhead sea turtle crawl was a bit out of the ordinary as she apparently picked a spot to lay her eggs and then moved on without doing so to another spot where she did .

The DNA magic egg was found in less than three minutes and the area of the nest was marked off soon thereafter.  Measurements were made and with crawl data sheet and DNA egg in hand the sea turtle nest #49 response “team” was outta there.
