Network for Endangered Sea Turtles 24 HR. HOTLINE 252-441-8622

Well what a wonderful early start to N.E.S.T.’s 2022 nesting season!  Nest 1 was laid in south Nags Head by a mother loggerhead determined to entertain out of town visitors. Folks from Tennessee took this gorgeous picture of her coming onto the beach and then were entertained for more than an hour while she laid a perfect nest.

This turtle seems intent on a serious mission.

Incoming tracks are on the left and outgoing tracks are on the right. The nest is the mound of sand in the foreground.

This morning a team was called in to verify the nest and then relocate it to another beach out of harms way. Since all of south Nags Head is undergoing beach nourishment this year, each and every nest musty be relocated..

Eggs have been moved to relocation site in egg cartons and are placed in new nest site.

Mother’s work is exactly replicated at the relocation site.

The hard working members of Team 1.
