We have quite a few friends all over the country.  They support our efforts in so many ways.  A few words about some in the N.E.S.T. news lately.

Recently, we lost Colleen Nophsker, from Fairview Township, PA.  Colleen was very supportive of the nest sitting efforts on the beach behind her Sanderling home, even letting the volunteers park in her driveway.  She was a real turtle lover and friend.  In her memory, friends and relatives donated over $800 to N.E.S.T. to support our nesting and rehabilitation efforts.  She will be missed by many, including the turtles.

The Mueller family from Ashville, NC did it again.  Their successful lemonade stand at Hatteras Island Boardsports and Wind netted a tidy sum which they donated. And they share their love for turtles with every customer.  See Adrienne’s artwork in the Kids Gallery.

The folks at Jennette’s Pier have posted one of our beach signs right at the boardwalk beach access.  The sign project is moving ahead well, with Duck, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, and Southern Shores accepting signs for posting.  Helping make it possible is a generous donation of lumber and hardware made by Lowes.  Our thanks to general manager, Fatima Gunter.

Then there are the many visiting friends who call to alert us to turtles and nests on the beach. In fact, nest #18 was found recently at 1 AM, with mom still actively laying.  A good neighbor called the N.E.S.T. hotline and the Westheiden volunteers quickly responded to keep her from harm.

We thank all of the above and so many others for their generous contributions and support throughout the year!
